The Helopak Advanced Blade Restraint System employs a diverse range of carbon fiber composite technologies, along with high specific strength Inconel. These materials result in a product with lighter weight, greater strength and non-corrosive characteristics, providing increased reliability and durability. Finite Element Analysis was performed to determine specific strength prior to manufacturing. Independent laboratory environmental testing was also completed on all system materials to determine endurance in high and low temperature conditions and resistance to sand/dust and salt/fog environments. Extensive deployment further confirmed that the ABRS excels in a shipboard environment.

The Helopak Advanced Blade Restraint System promotes advanced next gen modular design features. It rectifies the deficiencies of the existing Legacy System ranging from frequent component failures, excessive system weight and high cost of system maintenance. The Helopak ABRS has fewer parts, is 50% lighter in weight, requires 80% fewer spares and is 100% corrosion free.

The extensive use of carbon fiber, Inconel and urethane are the primary contributors to ABRS life cycle savings. Use of these materials, particularly in areas that are susceptible to fatigue and corrosion, substantially reduces time-consuming maintenance. The innovative design of the ABRS also significantly minimizes the number of components that must be maintained or inventoried. This translates to improved reliability and improved Operating and Support (O&S) cost reductions.

The Helopak Advanced Blade Restraint System provides increased functionality, safety, maintainability and improved mission effectiveness. It was designed to meet the highest levels of efficiency and reliability required by the US Navy. The system affords rapid installation and removal and requires less manpower for these tasks. The ABRS exceeds the USN 100 knot on-deck wind requirement and has been deployed in Sea State 9. Logistics are simplified with an in-place AOG program, complete product documentation and maintenance kits.
